COLLAR SIZE GUIDE

Even though you can expect some degree of adjustability with your new dog collar, it is important to measure your dog carefully.

  • Collars: If you are satisfied with the fit of your dog's current collar, measure that collar from the center bar of the buckle to the farthest hole. Our collars are sized according to this measurement, not to the over-all length of the collar, which varies by manufacturer and by whether it is a buckle-end or a dee-end style collar. (see diagram below):

If this is your dog's first collar or you need a collar in a different size, measure around the dog's neck with an allowance for 2 fingers to fit between the dog and the collar. The collar shouldn't be so tight that it will cause discomfort or so loose that it slides over the dogs head.

Harnesses Sizing Guide

  • Harnesses: Select a harness using the measurement of the girth - the measurement around the dog's chest just behind the front legs - allowing space for 2 fingers to fit between the harness and the dog's body for a comfortable fit.

  • "THE HARNESS" Leather Dog Harness is available in girth sizes from 30" to 40".  To determine the proper size harness, measure around the girth, the area behind the front legs but in front of the belly, of the dog.

  • The Figure 8 Harness is easy to fit and easy to put on and take off. To determine the size needed, use a tape measure to measure around the pet's neck, criss-crossing at the shoulder blade and then measuring down around the chest. This measurement will be the measurement of the harness to the longest hole of the harness. Be sure to select a size that allows room for adjustment both larger and smaller.

  • Auburn 's Leather TRACKING HARNESS has four adjustable buckle straps that will accommodate dogs in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, from a dog with a 28" girth to a dog with a 42" girth.  Simply (but carefully) measure the girth of the dog, that is the measurement just behind the front legs.  Then find the necessary tracking size based on the sizes and ranges specified.

Tips:

  • Remember that puppies grow quickly, so it is important to check the tightness of your dog collars and harnesses often. Inspect and replace a collar or harness as it shows signs of wear.
  • Remember, a rule of thumb is to leave an allowance for two fingers to fit between the collar and the dog for a comfortable fit.
